How the report is made
The point of this series is that you can check it. Here is exactly what we do.
Where the numbers come from
Every week we pull the OCDS release packages published by Find a Tender, the UK central notice service, for the seven days covered. We count what is in them. There is no sampling, no modelling and no estimation.
Why the report always shows its coverage
UK notices are not uniformly complete. A contract value appears on roughly a third of notices, a procurement category on under half, a supplier size flag on fewer still. Every figure in the report therefore names the number of records it was calculated from, and the coverage panel shows those shares up front.
What the report does not do
It never scales a partial figure up to a national total. Where values are published we report how many notices carried one, the median and the sum of those notices only. A sum of published values is a sum of published values, nothing more.
How it is produced
The analysis is deterministic code: the same week of data always produces the same report. The commentary is assembled from the counted figures, so it cannot say anything the data does not.
Scope, source and licence
- This report counts notices published on Find a Tender in the period shown. It is a measure of published procurement activity, not a measure of all UK public spending. Notices can be updated or withdrawn after publication, and organisations that publish elsewhere are not included.
